Can I come to the Writing Lab if I'm not taking an English course?

Absolutely! Students from all majors and disciplines are welcome to make an appointment with a Writing Coach who can review writing assignments for any subject.

What happens during a writing session?

During a writing session, you will meet one-on-one with a Writing Coach who will help you gauge where you are in the writing process. It is always best to share your assignment rubric and a first draft if possible. You and your Writing Coach will then engage in a generative discussion about how you can elevate your writing to the next level.

Writing can be challenging, but we are here to help you develop your voice and grow as a writer!

Can I schedule a session even if I don't have a full draft completed?

Yes! There are many stages of writing from brainstorming, to outlining, to writing your first draft, then progressing to a final draft. Our Writing Coaches can support you through this process from beginning to end. We can also help you refine your research skills and assist with formatting citations.

When is the best time to make an appointment?

It’s never too early to schedule an appointment with a Writing Coach. Whether you are still brainstorming or just need your final draft proofread, we can help you in any stage of your writing process.

We offer 30 minute and 1 hour appointments and have availability during the day and evenings so that you can always schedule a time that works for you.

Where are you located?

We have locations on both the Downcity and Harborside campuses so you can always stop by for a session no matter where you are.

Downcity folks can come visit us on the first floor of the Yena Center, and on the Harborside campus you'll find us on the first floor of the Friedman Center.

Can a Writing Coach help me with another subject during our session?

Writing sessions are reserved for writing assignments only. However, we also have a team of peer and professional tutors who offer support for a variety of subjects.

You can learn more about our subject tutoring services here.
