Shopping in Providence for the Holidays

When it comes to being in college, the budget for spending on non-necessities is very tight compared to spending money on things like food, dorm supplies, etc. However, now that we’re in peak holiday season the time for shopping and splurging on friends and family members has begun. If you’re not looking to destroy your bank account this season, then I highly suggest spending some time in these Providence-based shops for a little something special for your loved ones this year.

The very first store on the list is a little place called The Vault Collective. It’s a retail shop that specializes in vintage clothing from so many different decades. Located on 235 Westminster St. in Providence, this cool place is sure to leave you with hands full of unique, personal items for all of your loved ones. After visiting this shop a few times, I found myself in awe of all of the products that they sell. Whether you’re looking for vintage dresses, tops, hats, bags, accessories, shoes, etc., there’s always something here to find. I especially liked how clean the store's employees keep the place. Unlike other vintage and thrift stores, The Vault maintains their products and keeps them in organized sections for easier consumer review. Overall, this place is a great place to shop and although it’s on a pricier end for vintage items, the quality is well worth it.

The next store to discuss is a boutique called Queen of Hearts and Modern Love. Originally two separate stores, they came together to create a conjoined shop that offers a wide variety of fashionable clothes, trendy accessories, kitchen appliances, home decor, pantry items, and toys for kids. There’s a little something for everyone at Queen of Hearts and Modern Love located on 222 Westminster St. The employees that work there are always willing to help their customers locate products and help secure the best options for their needs. This store is a dream to shop in. The aesthetics, comfort, and creative environment that it provides made me want to stay and shop for hours. Whether you’re looking for a small or large gift, this place is bound to generate a wide variety of unique goods for each personal style.

Another great store that comes to mind for shopping during the holiday season is Home Style. This store, just like the others previously discussed, is also located extremely close to the Downcity campus on 233 Westminster St.. Unlike the other stores, however, this place is primarily geared to home-decor. They offer amenities such as kitchen appliances, plants, candles, home decorations, and more. There is also a smaller variety of jewelry, clothes, and children’s toys. Although a little clustered, the more time you spend in this store equates to a more interesting discovery for a gift. Although some of the products in the store are a bit pricey, the shop mainly offers moderately-priced goods that are sure to bring a smile to everyone’s faces this holiday season.

Shopping around this time of the year can be a stressful reoccurrence for people. One way to avoid that stress is by shopping in these small businesses. What better way to show gratitude for your loved ones this year than by ensuring your gifts are unique and thoughtful? The best part of shopping small is that you are guaranteed a gift that can’t be found in just any other store. Also, you would be helping the Providence community that you know and love to prosper. For the holidays and well beyond, consider leaving more well known stores for these uniquely beautiful stores in Rhode Island.
