Do you need to have insurance to visit health services?


You do not need school insurance or any insurance to visit health services. However, if any lab work or testing needs to be done you will need to provide insurance for billing.

 

Does health services provide sick notes for class?


Health services does not give notes for illness. It is recommended to communicate with your faculty regarding missing class or lab.

 

Will my parents know if I visit health services?


Health services is a confidential office, we will not disclose your medical information to parents without your consent. If you would like us to speak to a parent please contact health services for a written consent form for you to complete.

 

How do I get a copy of my school insurance card?


Please visit universityhealthplans.com scroll to Johnson & Wales University then on the home page there is a link to online insurance ID.

 

How can I get a copy of my vaccine record?


If you are still an active student you can obtain this from the Pyramed Student Patient Portal found on the PyraMed Student Health Portal. If you are no longer active you can email healthservices.pvd@jwu.edu and request a copy and we will email a consent form to fill out then send the information asked for.

 

Does health services refill medication?


Health services can refill most commonly prescribed medications. Please contact health services to schedule an appointment at 401-598-1151.

 

Do I have to have health insurance?

 

Yes, all undergraduate students, both domestic and international, all international graduate students, and any graduate student required to be enrolled under programmatic requirements (e.g., students enrolled in the Physician Assistant Program, on-campus Occupational Therapy Program, Addiction Counseling or Clinical Mental Health Counseling master's degree programs, etc.), registered and attending Johnson & Wales University and taking credit hours (excluding full-time Johnson & Wales employees) are required to have health coverage. Those with this expectation are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) unless they waive SHIP coverage prior to the invoice date. More information here.

How do I know if my waiver for the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) has been accepted?

Waivers are reviewed and notification is sent to JWU Wildcat email by University Health Plans, not JWU. Find more information here.

What are the hours and availability of Health Services?

Health Services supports the wellbeing of JWU Providence students and is available with or without an appointment. Hours, location and contact can be found here (JWU sign in required).
