My College Memory

After growing up in the military and starting high school in Germany, graduation and my college search in Tennessee was like speaking a foreign language. After finding a collegiate home at a liberal arts university, I quickly recognized a passion for college admission. When I was not cheering at football games or studying, I was working in the admission office. I particularly enjoyed picking prospective students up from the airport and helping with receptions at alumni homes. The idea of being the first person that a student met or being available to answer questions about my university brought me great joy. What I learned many years ago has always rang true: I am passionate about helping students and families in their college going journey. Whether I am at the local nursery buying plants for my yard, exercising at the health club, or having a meal, I can always make time to answer college questions.

My College Memory

I am a first-generation college student. That is, I am the first person in my family to go to college. My collegiate experience was one of the greatest experiences of my life. But, it wasn’t easy.

I worked a full-time job for seven years while pursuing my four-year Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. As I neared the end of college, I began to think about what I REALLY wanted to be “when I grow up.” I decided that I wanted to help other college students like myself — just as I had been helped by many people at my college.

It was at this time that I learned about a graduate school program called College Student Personnel. Graduates with this master’s degree work with college students outside of the classroom. This includes areas such as admissions, financial aid, academic counseling, career counseling, personal counseling, student activities, athletics, etc. During graduate school I completed a practicum in the undergraduate admissions office and I knew that this was my calling in life.

I have many years of experience in undergraduate, graduate, medical and law school admissions. I really enjoy helping prospective students with the college discovery and admissions process. Johnson & Wales University is a special place, and I look forward to working with you as a partner in your college experience!
