With Hispanic Heritage month right behind us , it is still important to celebrate and support .  In recent years, many Latinos have made an impact in the fashion and makeup industry, in which they use  safe and ethical practices. They are making their name in the beauty and fashion industry inspiring Latino voices. 

 

Amanda Maria Forastieri

 

A Puerto Rican fashion designer, who made a name for herself. Growing up on the island, from a young age she was exposed to vibrant color. She is known to create pieces from natural fibers, she likes to collaborate with people from the island. Her first Ready to Wear collection was made in Utuado, Puerto Rico. She still uses resources from the island and makes sure to support local business herself. In her website Amanda says “ I firmly believe in a decentralized fashion system and am currently researching ways to, over time, localize a fully circular supply chain in Puerto Rico”. 

 

Vavica Body Care

 

Founded by three first generation Latinas, Valentina, Victoria and Camila. They founded the brand to embrace their roots as Guatemalan/Argentinians. They created the brand to show different skin colors, body types and promote safe products for our skin.

Santos by Monica

 

If you are looking to  shop for a luxury brand and have it eco friendly, then Santos by Monica is for you. Monica Have made a name for themselves from their viral cactus leather bag, which are made out of cactuses and rainwater. The bag which was featured in the Gossip Girl reboot, incorporates and sticks to the brand goal of making fashion with natural textiles. “We believe in incorporating biomaterials, local production, and timeless design to create products that not only look good but also do good for the planet.”

 

Casa Muza

 

Ready to wear brand, by Polet Guzman, a self-made Puerto Rican designer. Her company started in Puerto Rico as a silk screened t-shirt. Now she owns a sustainable brand based in New York, where she sells  a variety of merchandise. The merchandise also has a variety of other Latin local designers that include apparel, accessories , home décor and wellness products. The brand goal is to empower and make females feel confident in her clothes. 

 

Bomba Curls

 

Is an Afro-Dominican brand, founded by Lulu Cordero. The brand was first founded  back in 2019. Has already made a name for itself  and founded different retailers such Target, Nordstrom and JCPenney. Lulu's inspiration for the brand was when she was having difficulty in finding products that are suitable for her hair and was suffering from alopecia. In where she later started using Dominican recipes to help her hair grow Using then those recipes to create the brand. Empowering women with curls, Lulu's message says; “Bomba Curls is my love letter to women and girls everywhere who have ever been made to feel that their natural coils and kinks are somehow anything less than beautiful.” 

 

Casa Norte

 

Its Mexican owned brand, led by  Raramuri culture, ancestral clothing is their main inspiration. Another company that uses ethical and sustainable practices .  Their works were featured in Vogue.Their goal is to educate the world about Raramuri culture and to pass down their garments to each generation. With their statement: “We tell their stories, share their knowledge, and celebrate their craft.” 

 

Lunoa  Jewelry

 

A small  owned jewelry store, founded by four proud latinas. Their goal is to sell sustainable luxury jewelry at a reasonable price point. With their mission to enhance external beauty and to make everyone feel unique and beautiful.

 

De Maria

 

It is a ready to wear brand , in which they work with artisan workshops in Mexico to design creative pieces using ethical and local materials.  In their website it quotes: “ We believe in ethical  manufacturing, fair wages, long-lasting designs, creative collaboration, and celebrating traditional design techniques.”

 

Cindy Castro

 

Proud Ecuadorian immigrant Cindy Castro followed her dreams and moved to New York, where she started her brand. The designer created her brand RTW in which they focused on sustainability. The goal is founded in their website: “Her mission is to disrupt the industry and be one of the first Latinas leading sustainable fashion” 

 

Mirror Palais

 

The brand first launched in 2019, the brand went viral with slip dresses, particularly the fairy slip dress. Their designer , Marcelo Gaia of Brazilian heritage, uses inspiration from Brazilian  culture and  other Latin American culture within his designs. The brand has been seen worn by multiple celebrities such as Olivia Rodrigo, Cindy Kimberly and Kylie Jenner. With their mission stating:

“Gaia decided to create his label- with mission  to celebrate the confident woman who inspire him” 

 

It is important to support these brands, because of how they are impacting  the community. With their approaches to sustainability and eco friendly products. Each brand also has made a significant impact on teaching people about Hispanic culture. To educate people about the importance of everyone's heritage. And also to show how proud they are of where they came from.
