Cover letters are just as important as resumes. Employers receive hundreds of resumes for a position, but a well-written cover letter makes it clear why you are the best person for the job.
If you want to write a cover letter that gets you noticed, think about three things:
- Employers read many cover letters, so avoid generic, or “vanilla,” letters
- Write a cover letter targeted to the job position, to show your potential employer that you’re a good fit
- Match your letter to the job description to show your potential employer that you have the exact qualifications he or she wants
