What to Bring

To make your visit to JWU more enjoyable, bring:

  • Pillow, blanket and bed linen, extra long, twin-sized
  • Toiletries 
  • Towels and washcloths 
  • Water bottle
  • Spending money, small amount for souvenirs or additional snacks at evening excursions
  • Cell phone and charger (all students are required to have their own working and charged cell phone at all times) 
  • Proper attire for academic activities (see below)

Culinary and Baking & Pastry Arts Dress Code

You do not need to be in uniform when you arrive.

At all academic activities, you must follow JWU dress code, uniform and grooming guidelines. You cannot wear casual attire in the classroom, or you will not be allowed into class.

At non-academic activities and during evening activities, you can wear casual clothes of your choice. 

  • Plain, white T-shirt (no logos)
  • Chef coat (optional)
  • Black pants or chef pants (no shorts or jeans)
  • Socks
  • Black (or dark), closed-toe, flat shoes (non-skid, non-slip preferred; we prefer no tennis shoes)
  • Fingernails clipped short, with no nail polish
  • No jewelry, earrings, necklace, rings, watch, etc.
  • Hair must be pulled back and secured (we can provide hair nets for participants who cannot easily tie back or secure their hair)
  • You will be provided with a chef’s hat and apron, which you must wear
