Jennifer Pereira has been instrumental in the development of JWU's craft brewing curriculum. She is articulate in the science and craft of beer and brewing. In addition to launching JWU's student club, JbreW in 2004, she founded the Ocean State Homebrew Competition in 2011, one of the country's largest and most prestigious competitions. She has earned dozens of awards for her own recipes from ales to meads.
Pereira has enlightened radio audiences in New England on topics ranging from holiday beverages to beer education, and has published several articles on the topics in consumer and trade publications. She is committed to the craft, finding time for active memberships with the Beer Judge Certification Program, the American Homebrewers Association, the Brewers Association, and the Institute of Brewing and Distilling (UK). She serves on the Educational Committee for the Master Brewers Association.
