Matt Samel, Ph.D., is a recipient of a grant from The Club Foundation® that supported his research, "Organizational culture and person-organization fit: predictors of job satisfaction in private clubs." He was selected by The Club Foundation to complete a year-long faculty internship in 2017-18. During visitations to a variety of private clubs, he gained valuable insight from club professionals about six fundamental areas to the club industry: technology, governance, member services, food and beverage programming, multi-generational memberships, and the shrinking employee talent pool. He served as the academic for Boris Gradina, MCM, CCE, CMAA Monograph support committee. The 23rd Master Club Manager (MCM) Monograph; New Employee Onboarding at Private Clubs 10/2018 -2/2020.
He has published research and reflections, and has been interviewed about his experiences, in multiple trade outlets. Samel is an associate member of the Club Management Association of America ( CMAA), International Council on Hotel, Restaurant & Institutional Education ( ICHRIE), the Society for Human Resource Management ( SHRM), and is a Certified Food Manager Professional ( FMP–NRA), Certified Hospitality Educator ( CHE- AHLEI), and a Certified Senior Professional in Human Resources® ( SPHR®) with a ( HRCI®) HR in Ethics Certificate.
In addition to teaching, he is the Vice-Chair of the Club Management SIG- (Special Interest Group – ICHRIE & CMAA) and the faculty advisor to the JWU student CMAA chapter, where he assists students in obtaining scholarships, securing employment and internships, and attending the CMAA Student Education and World Conference on Club Management.
He has lectured internationally at the The Estoril Higher Institute for Tourism and Hotel Studies ( Escola Superior de Hotelaria e Turismo do Estoril, Portugal – ESHTE).
