After seeing one too many TikToks about different flavors, bites, and bold combinations, I decided to make my way to the social media icon, the Nitro Bar located on Federal Hill in Providence, RI. After ten-minutes in line, and ten minutes for it to be made to order, I got to try the Rhode Island favorite.
The star of the show was the Raspberry Chocolate Chip Latte, inspired by the ice cream flavor. The black raspberry syrup was more of a compote, made with fresh fruit flavoring the entire drink, without the need to search for more at the bottom of the cup. The chocolate sauce drizzled on the sides of the cup was decadent, gooey, and complimented the cocoa notes in the espresso beautifully. There are more adventurous drinks available at the bar, like an espresso tonic and a dirty wafer.
For the non-coffee lovers, I have also had a cherry vanilla chai, and the seasonal flavors never disappoint, with the same thick fruity flavored syrup and bold flavors. The chai offers spice and warmth, even in an iced drink. They offer matcha and a variety of teas and hot chocolate. Every kind of milk is offered, in addition to multiple vegan and vegetarian items, throughout the menu.
When it comes to food, I ordered the Bacon Egg and Cheese. Unlike the traditional scrambled egg, the Nitro Bar opts for soft boiled instead, fried to create crispy edges with plenty of black pepper. It’s not my favorite method however, it’s a welcome break from the usual. Sandwiches are served on an English muffin with the option to upcharge for a bagel. The English muffin was soft and buttery, and the bacon was incredibly crispy without tasting the slightest bit burnt. The cheese was gooey and creamy. I have heard good things about sausage, egg, and cheese as well. Keep in mind, the Newport locations have full kitchens including multiple pancakes and other dishes advertised on their social media that are not offered at the Federal Hill location due to sizing.
I’ve been to the location on Federal Hill twice, located at 228 Broadway
Providence, RI 02903, once on a Saturday and once on a Wednesday around the same 10am timeframe, due to its virality there is almost always a line. However, I would recommend going sometime during the school week before or after your classes. Going on a weekday saved me about 30 minutes waiting in line. There is also an online ordering option. They are open seven days a week 7am to 5pm. Like most city coffee shops Street Parking, walking, or biking, is the way to go with no parking lots or garages around.
Their newest seasonal flavor, chocolate orange available in chai, coffee, both nitro and espresso, and matcha was released on Thursday, February 13th along with multiple Valentine’s themed pastries. See you there and tell them Antoinette sent you!
