JWU Paws First Shelter Trip

Oct. 19, the J.W.U. Paws went on their first shelter trip of the fall semester to the Hotel for Homeless Dogs Humane Society. This facility houses dogs that come from some of the worst environments. Everyone who works at the Hotel for Homeless Dogs is the sweetest, most down-to-earth people who want to help these dogs find their forever homes.

We were informed that one of the dogs we met, Joey, was rescued from a kill shelter in South Carolina. He is well-behaved, sweet, and loves to interact with people. She also told us that he’s usually the dog that gets tested with other dogs to see if they're dog-friendly. We walked and played with some of their new furry friends, Winston, Josie, Duke, Molly, Joey, and Maggie. Some of the dogs that we meet came from some of the worst backgrounds. These included living on the streets, coming from abusive households, and enduring starvation.

But at the Hotel for Homeless Dogs, the dogs are well taken care of and are looking for a forever home . The shelter gives the dogs warm beds to sleep in, places to play, blankets to lie on, and hygiene to ensure every dog gets the care they need. They also allow for the dogs to be taken out as fosters. This often means people will come and take them on hikes and through drive-thrus to get a pup cup, or playdates with other dogs, and sometimes even for walks at a park. They also have different events to allow the dogs to get adopted.

It was a blast getting to spend time off campus and play with some dogs who don’t have a home yet. Many of these dogs are up for adoption, and you can adopt a dog from this facility by going to the hotel for homeless dogs and looking at the dogs they have there. You can also get to meet them in the many private rooms they have available.. Another thing you can do is look at their website and social media to see what dogs are available. They also have dogs in a variety of ages that you can choose from... Some of the time, the shelter doesn't know how old the dogs are, so they just estimate depending on how the dog looks or acts.

This was a great trip done by J.W.U. PAWS, and if you missed this one, be on the lookout for the next shelter trip coming up this month to create an impact not only in your life, but a cute furry friends as well!
