TRAVEL WARNINGS
Any university employee wishing to travel (either on their own, or with a student group) to a country under a US State Department Travel Warning must first submit a request with the International Travel Risk Management Committee.
1. Check for Travel Warnings
Issued by the U.S. Department of State, this is a high level of warning against travel to a particular country, due to multiple factors which might include:
- Ongoing or intense crime/violence
- Natural disaster
- Civil war
- Frequent terrorist attacks.
Check the US State Department/Bureau of Consular Affairs for the most up-to-date list of current Travel Warnings in your chosen destination:
2. Review JWU's Process
If your travel destination is currently under a Travel Warning, consult these documents for details on JWU’s Travel Warning Process.
3. Request Approval
This form should be submitted prior to the purchase of flights and visas, preferably at least 3 months in advance of anticipated travel.
4. Await Approval
All university-sponsored travel to countries currently under a US Travel Warning must be approved by the Provost, or designee, after recommendation from the International Travel Risk Management Committee.
