Creative Conceptualization - "A Day in the Life of a Digital Wallet"

If there's an idea or concept in your course that you tell students about in order to reach and educate them on a particular subject, we can enhance the delivery of your subject matter through the use of custom media.

For this project, Professor Ron Blum came to us and mentioned that he needed materials to demonstrate to his students the ease of using a digital wallet. He provided us with a basic script of different useful applications for the digital wallet, and we took care of the rest.

Experiential Education - "Sustainability Tour with Eco-friendly Builder Dave Sweet"

When students can't physically visit a location important to your course's subject matter, our media team can help you bring the experience to them on their computer or mobile device.

HOSP2120 is a relatively new course developed by our Instructional Design team and Professor Paul Bagdan. Since the course is designed to be taken by students interested in facility maintenance, Professor Bagdan thought it would be prudent to show students some of the real-world equipment they'd likely be seeing when they enter the profession. Our Media Team worked with one of our outside partners to film a virtual tour inside an eco-friendly home where much of this equipment is present. The variety of equipment presented in the virtual tour provides students with useful knowledge and inspiration to learn more.

Interactive Content – “ENG0001: Understanding Academic Voice”

Interactive content takes several forms - it can enrich the student multimedia experience by providing a tactile element to an assignment. If there's a quiz or check-for-understanding built into the media, students may be motivated to absorb information or take notes.

We can work with you to develop video content that has quizzing functions built in. This way, students can watch a video and be presented with information, with an element that reinforces their understanding and helps students commit the information to memory. Built-in multimedia quizzing functions add a layer of dynamicity to multimedia and enrich the student learning experience.

Virtual Lectures – “Unlocking the Fundamentals of Programmatic Advertising”

If there's a concept your online students are having trouble wrapping their heads around, we can work with you to craft a script, complete with engaging graphics, music, and breakaway fullscreen text.

For this case, Professor Oscar Chilabato approached Instructional Designer Heather Myers with a need for a video that explains what programmatic advertising is since many of his students were having trouble grasping the concept or continually asked a series of similar questions. Heather consulted with Chris Sheppard, who worked with Oscar on putting together a teleprompter script to read for a virtual lecture. Once principal videography was wrapped up, we handled the rest and delivered this content for use in the virtual classroom.

Digital Storytelling – “LAW3010: Understanding Personal Property vs. Real Property”

In lieu of having your students read paragraphs and pages of text, we can take complex written material and convert it into a video or series of videos designed for the digital age.

For this project, one of our developers worked with a member of the instructional design team to create a series of videos for LAW3010 that break down complex technical legal subjects into an engaging format that students will be more easily able to process and remember.

Animating Key Concepts – “Theories of Effective Leadership and Followership”

Animation is a great way to augment or add to a virtual lecture or presentation or illustrate a difficult-to-explain concept in a way that your students will remember. Our media team offers both 2D composite animation and full 3D animation capabilities, depending on the project and what your needs are.

In 2019, Academic Director Anice O'Connor approached the media team to assist in the creation of a virtual lecture for a leadership course she teaches. We assisted in script development and augmented her presentation with 2D composite animations to illustrate important concepts that comprised much of the lecture subject materials. The result is a more dynamic and engaging audio lecture that includes elements designed to make the material easier for students to relate to and understand.

Lecture Copy to Video Content – “ENG3030: Writing Your First Restaurant Review”

If you've already worked on a script or have your lecture content written down in a text format, we can take your copy and use it as the basis for the creation of a video, complete with music, graphics, and stock footage.

Professor Sam Wells provided a member of our media team with scripts containing material that he pulled from his lectures and asked if we could create content that would break up the monotony students face of having to read pages of text. We created a series of videos and other multimedia to accomplish this goal and deliver a more robust educational experience.

Enhancing Faculty-Created Video – “Old World Wines – Tasting an Older Vintage Wine”

Faculty-created video has increasingly become an important communication medium, especially post-pandemic. In this case, Professor Scott Richardson wanted to include some educational multimedia that featured him giving a demonstration to students for his CUL4030 class. Since our faculty member lives in Florida, we worked with him to obtain the raw recording and added JWU branding and graphics to his content to make it consistent with JWU branding guidelines and standards. The result is a more polished end product for students.

Custom Guest Lecture Introduction – “An Introduction to Understanding Indigenous Perspectives”

There may be times in your course when you want to utilize special subject matter given by a certain presenter or subject matter expert. In cases like these, we can give your guest lecturer a proper introduction so that students can become familiar with them and better understand their background and expertise.

Web Resource Tutorials – “Understanding the BRFSS”

As part of your course, students may end up needing to utilize complex outside resources developed by third parties. We can save you time by creating a tutorial that explains how to use a database, acquire data or navigate a website.

For HSC4900, Professor Samantha Rosenthal came to her Instructional Designer with a need to explain how to use a complex search tool on the CDC website. We were able to help turn Prof. Rosenthal's base input into a voiceover web tutorial that concisely explains to students how to use the CDC's BRFSS tool.

On-Ground Lecture Recording – “A Crash Course in Social Media Marketing Process”

Do you teach online and on-ground? If there's a presentation that you're fond of giving in the classroom or a guest lecturer who has a limited time on campus, we can bring our equipment to your on-ground classroom and record the presentation for your online students to view.

Professor Kristen Regine hosted a guest speaker in her on-ground MRKT1001 course, who gave a two-hour presentation to Professor Regine's on-ground class. Since MRKT1001 is also available online, the Instructional Design team came to us for assistance with recording the on-ground guest lecture and converting it to online multimedia. Prior to uploading, we made post-production edits and added graphics to the lecture to enrich the content for our online students.

On-Ground Activity Videos – “The Fundamentals of Wine Tasting – Understanding the Basics”

Whether it's a wine-tasting, culinary lab, or campus event relevant to your online course, we can be there to capture it and create a video to remember.

For this video, Professor Michael Sabitoni wanted to film a wine-tasting activity from his on-ground course and make it available in his online course sections - the on-ground wine tasting presented an opportunity to capture students going through the steps of the wine-tasting process. We added graphics and b-roll and created a resource that brings the on-ground experience to our online students.

Institutional Resources – “JWU Institutional Review Board – The RPA’s Journey”

Prospective students may want to learn more about our programs or garner a better understanding of how our institution works. We can work with you to create process and overview videos that can strengthen our processes and ultimately lead to a more robust educational outcome for online students.

For this project, David Hood, Ph. D. approached the Instructional Design team with a need to develop a series of videos that explain how the Johnson & Wales Institutional Review Board application process works, from submitting a research proposal to the approval process. As a result of our collaboration, the IRB now has robust multimedia that research candidates can watch and learn from before they submit their applications.
